5 Tuff Tray Activities For 6+ Year Olds
As you might know, tuff trays are great play accessories for all ages, especially since with the stand being height adjustable so it grows with the child. It provides children a safe and interactive space where they can express themselves through play, and expand their creativity and imagination as well as many other skills.
Here are 5 activities you can do with children 6+
CARDBOARD CREATIONS: WHAT WILL YOU MAKE?
Use cardboard and any recycled materials (toilet rolls, milk carton, bottle lids, bubble wrap, etc.) to create something new. Kids can make a house, pretend food, a vehicle, a camping site… no limit to their imagination! This could turn into a project and add something new every day. You can also add any art materials you want (or they can find them as they need them). Once they get stuck in, they will come up with so many amazing ideas, which is great for their problem solving and decision making skills.
ENDLESS FUN BUILDING WITH LEGO
You can add all your Lego on the tuff tray and make some space for your creations, or if you have a lot of Lego you could just use the tray to display all your pieces and create it on the floor or on a table beside it. The higher edges of the tuff tray will keep all your Lego contained and you can easily find what you are looking for. As you know, Lego is a very powerful activity for brain development, create new pathways and connections as we link pieces, connect ideas and create new things.
FROZEN RESCUE: SAVE YOUR TOYS!
This one really doesn’t get old! Add your child’s favourite figures (or you can add anything that can get wet) into a container, add water, and freeze overnight. You could also add drops of food colouring into the water. Add your frozen figures to the tuff tray, add a few bowls of warm water, droppers, syringes from kids medicine for fine motor skills, or spoons, or a toy hammer! Let the fun begin! Can you rescue all the figures? If you don’t mind the mess, you could also add some water based paint so they could paint the ice. The bigger the ice block, the longer they will spend at it.
FASHION DESIGN: CREATE UNIQUE OUTFITS!
Do you have any old clothes or fabric? Add it to your tuff tray, add some markers (chalk markers work well), and you will also need scissors and sticky Velcro OR pipe cleaners to put the clothes together. Children can bring their dolls or teddies and create unique clothes and accessories for them. Once they get started, they will come up with more ideas for decorations and accessories so they can go and find other items that might be useful (and safe) for their creations.
BRING YOUR FAVOURITE STORIES TO LIFE
Let your child pick a book and bring it to the tuff tray. Read the book together. Add some plain paper and markers, and any other art materials you may have. Can they create the characters from the book? Or the scenery? They could even turn this into a puppet show, using lollipop sticks or toilet rolls to get the characters to stand on the tray. Or you could also use magazines or catalogues to make a collage to extend the story and they can create their own.
